hey all! i have been getting more and more questions in regards to my makeup and skincare but i wanted to take a step back for a second. We all know makeup and skincare are important but we also have to keep in mind some things that we may neglect. I wanted to give a quick list of things to always try to remember for taking care of your skin:
Makeup does have an expiration: Even though I know this rule I am still SO guilty of not throwing out products. Makeup does have an expiration and needs to be thrown out in a timely manner. Depending on the type of makeup(liquids, powders, lipsticks/glosses etc) they do eventually expire. Liquid face makeup: approx 6 months, mascara=3 months, Powders=2 Years, lipstick=1 year
Clean your brushes: just because you are the only one that uses those brushes doesn’t mean you shouldn’t clean them. The less you take care of them, the more bacteria gets on the brushes and can lead to infections. Also: not cleaning them leads to the brushes losing their shape and therefore you buying new brushes more often. So scrub scrub scrub!
Face products are your friend: if you aren’t a skincare or makeup addict, start to at least understand your skin. Learn if you are oily, have dry skin etc just to understand what are your face and neck needs.
Don’t forget your neck!! Whether it comes to washing, exfoliating, moisturizing, or even applying makeup, the neck is somehow forgotten. Take care of it the same way you would do for your face
Skincare outside the skin products: Taking care of your skin isn’t all about the lotions and the top of the line serums. Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep, exercise, and drinking plenty of water! i will write a more detail post about this
Diet: your diet does affect your skin. People say this all the time and i never understood it until i tried this for myself. My quick example: I simply switched my morning coffee and milk with oat milk. Ever since doing that, my skin has become more and more clear. Learn more about what foods affect your body. Your skin (and your gut) will thank you
Clean your sheets: Some of us are not in college anymore and washing your sheets once every 6 weeks is gross. Depending on the circumstances, you should be washing your sheets on a regular basis. Think of it this way: your hair and your skin touch your sheets. Your face and your hair do have oil on them and that builds up on your sheets. Instead of having that constantly on your bed sheets, keeping them clean will only benefit you.
BTW: try out a Satin bed sheet: better for your hair and skin
Cell phone: if you cannot remember the last time you cleaned your cell phone, stop reading this and do it now. Most people use their phone (more than they would probably like to admit), and don’t clean it. AKA it is COVERED in germs! Clean it now!
Cold shower: i know, this sounds pretty bad but it is truly better for you. yes it wake you up, and yes i’ll admit, it is legit almost painful, but it is worth it. long hot showers/baths strip the natural oils from your skin. each day, make your shower a little bit cooler than the last. You will eventually get to a better temperature that benefits your hair and skin
SPF SPF SPF SPF! Can’t say it enough but SPF daily is crucial! Does not matter if it is winter, spring, summer or fall, you should be wearing it every single freaking day! if you want to prevent premature aging, fine lines, sun damage etc, wear it daily!
until next time!
XOXO,
SunriseCay
